Rat opens.

Formally the Frog, then The Rathskeller in 1964, then T.J.’s, The Rat is located in the basement at 528 Commonwealth Avenue. Purchase by former manager Jim Harold, it reopens under its previous name (later shortened) and goes on to become Boston’s top “punk rock” club. Performs include Blondie, The Cars, Dead Kennedys, Joan Jett, The Pixies, The Police, The Ramones, Lou Reed, R.E.M., and Talking Heads. The club closes with a performance by Gang Green on November 15, 1997.
